末日幻想（英语：apocalyptic fiction）是科学幻想中幻想由于核战争、瘟疫、外星生命入侵、撞擊事件、人工智慧叛變、技术奇异点、种族退化、超自然现象、末世论、地球的未來、氣候變化、资源枯竭或其他灾害造成文明结束的子类别。末日后幻想（英语：Post-apocalyptic fiction）设定在上述灾难后的世界或文明。时间范围可以是灾难后的不久以后，关注幸存者的痛苦或心理；也可以是一段时间之后，通常描写灾难前文明被遗忘（或被神话）的故事。灾难后文明通常出现在一个农业社会、无技术世界，或者只遗留部分技术的世界。
第二次世界大战后，此类别显得十分流行，由于公众对核武器战争导致世界末日的恐惧。然而，最晚从19世纪初，一些明显的末日小说就存在了，包括玛丽·雪莱的《最后一个人》。[1]此外，启示文学、比喻和戏剧已经有千年的历史了。对于末日幻想的意识原由人类的大脑反射性与联想性意识的联接，人类清楚地了解自身的存在性和毁灭的可能性。然而，末日幻想的开端原至人类社会的反面性行为与不安的联想。近年来人类的行为都反映出末日的可确认性前兆，截至2017年，人类社会还是充满了斗争，饥饿，疾病，强掠和残酷的战争，世界各地的贫富差距依旧不断地上升，造成资源缺乏，最后演变成了永无止境的混乱局面。频复的人类活动导致的温室效应，生态失衡，空气污染等问题无限地加强了人类对末日的幻想。
